You can delete your ZeroTwo account yourself from Settings > Data Controls. Deletion is permanent and happens right away: your data is removed, ZeroTwo asks Stripe to cancel a subscription you pay for by card, and ZeroTwo does not refund past payments or unused credits. If the cancel request fails, the web and desktop apps still delete the account, so cancel a card plan first if you want to be sure it stops (see Your subscription and credits below).

## Before you delete

- **Export what you want to keep.** Your chats cannot be recovered once the account is gone. See [How to export your ZeroTwo chats](https://help.zerotwo.ai/en/articles/7260999-how-to-export-your-zerotwo-chats).
- **Expect no refund.** ZeroTwo's refund policy says that deleting your account does not refund any past payment, including unused credits or unused subscription time. It suggests canceling your plan and using the time or credits you have left before you delete.
- **Check where you pay.** A plan bought through the App Store is billed by Apple; Settings > Billing shows "Billing for this plan is managed through the App Store." Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store plan, so cancel it in your Apple subscriptions.

## Delete your account on the web or desktop app

1. Select your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then choose **Settings**.
2. Open the **Data Controls** tab.
3. On the **Delete account** row, select the red **Delete account** button.
4. In the "Are you absolutely sure?" dialog, read the warning, then select **Delete account**. Select **Cancel** if you have changed your mind.
5. Wait for ZeroTwo to finish. An alert tells you the account has been deleted, and you are sent to the home page.

The dialog warns that the action cannot be undone and that it permanently deletes your account and removes your data from ZeroTwo's servers.

## What deletion removes

Deleting your account removes:

- your cloud computer and cloud browser resources, and any cloud computer subscription, which are cleaned up first;
- the files stored for your account;
- the sites you published with ZeroTwo Sites;
- the memory and search indexes built from your chats and files;
- the rest of your account data, such as chats and projects;
- your sign-in itself.

## Your subscription and credits

When you delete the account on the web or in the desktop app, ZeroTwo first asks Stripe to cancel an active card subscription right away. That is different from **Cancel plan** in Settings > Billing, which keeps your plan features until the end of the current billing period. If you want the rest of the period you paid for, use Cancel plan first, and delete the account when the period ends.

The cancel request can fail. On the web and in the desktop app the deletion then goes ahead anyway and the app shows no warning, so the card subscription may still be active. To be sure a card plan stops, cancel it first (see [How do I cancel my ZeroTwo subscription?](https://help.zerotwo.ai/en/articles/7232927-how-do-i-cancel-my-zerotwo-subscription)) and check that **Settings > Billing** says "Your plan ends on" before you delete. The phone apps behave differently:

- **iPhone and iPad.** The app cancels the card subscription first. If that fails, it does not delete the account and says "We couldn't cancel your subscription, so your account was not deleted. Please try again."
- **Android.** The app also asks to cancel the card subscription first, but it deletes the account even if the cancel request fails.

ZeroTwo's refund policy says that deleting your account ends your access to paid features immediately and stops future renewals, but that it does not refund the current billing period, unused credits or past payments.

## What can remain after deletion

ZeroTwo's privacy notice says it deletes or anonymizes personal information from active systems when that is reasonably practicable. It may keep information it must retain for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons, and backup copies can persist for a limited time before they are overwritten.

## If deletion does not finish

If something goes wrong, ZeroTwo shows an alert with the error message. If no message is available, the alert reads "Failed to delete account. Please try again later." If the request takes longer than 30 seconds, the alert asks you to try again or contact support. Run the steps again; ZeroTwo's server-side cleanup of cloud computer resources is built so a failed attempt can be retried.

If you cannot sign in or the steps keep failing, you can ask ZeroTwo to delete the account for you. Go to [zerotwo.ai/delete-account](https://zerotwo.ai/delete-account), enter your email address and an optional note, and select **Send deletion request**, or email [reed@zerotwo.ai](mailto:reed@zerotwo.ai).

## On iPhone, iPad and Android

- **iPhone and iPad.** Open Settings, go to Data controls and tap **Delete account**. The screen says it permanently deletes your ZeroTwo account, chats, files, projects and settings. If your plan is billed through the App Store, it adds that deleting your account does not cancel the plan and links to **Manage Apple subscriptions**. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap **Delete account permanently**. - **Android.** Open Settings > Data controls, select **Delete account**, then select **Delete Account** on the Account screen. The dialog tells you to type DELETE to confirm, then select **Delete**.
