Files you attach in ZeroTwo are saved in your Library, so how you get rid of one depends on where it is. Taking an attachment off a message does not delete your copy. Deleting the file from the Library does.

## Which option do I need?

| Where the file is | What to do | What happens to it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| In the message box, not sent yet | Select the X on the attachment | It is taken off the message. The copy in your Library stays. |
| Already sent in a chat | Delete it from the Library | It moves to Recently Deleted, which says items are permanently deleted after 30 days. |
| In a project's Sources | Select the trash icon on its row | It is taken out of the project. The copy in your Library stays. |
| Attached to chats you no longer want | Delete the chat or use Delete all chats | The chats go. The files stay in your Library. |

## Remove a file before you send the message

Each attachment in the message box has a small X in its corner. On a device with a mouse the X appears when you point to the attachment; on a touch screen it is always visible. Select the X and the file is detached from your message.

If an upload fails, the card says **Upload failed** and offers **Retry**. Select the X to remove it, then attach the file again.

Every file you attach from the message box is also added to your Library, so removing it here does not remove it from there. To delete it for good, use the steps below.

## Delete a file from your Library

1. Choose **Spaces** in the left rail, then **All** in the Space sidebar. This is your Library.
2. Find the file. The **Search library** box helps, and the **Filter Library items** button opens a menu with a **Source** group that has an **Uploaded** option.
3. Open the file's three-dot menu and choose **Delete**. ZeroTwo shows **Moved to Trash**.

To delete several files at once, tick their checkboxes and choose **Delete** in the bar that appears. If the Library shows the notice "This Library is currently read-only", you can still view and download files, but changes such as deleting are not available.

### Where deleted files go

Choose **Trash**, the last row of the Space sidebar, to open **Recently Deleted**. The page notes that items are permanently deleted after 30 days. To get a file back before then, open its menu and choose **Restore**, or tick it and choose **Restore** in the bar.

While a file is in Recently Deleted, ZeroTwo takes it out of the chats and projects that used it, and it can no longer be searched. Restoring it puts it back.

## Take a file out of a project

1. Open the project and choose the **Sources** tab.
2. Point to the file's row and select the trash icon at its end. The icon is disabled if you cannot manage the project's sources.

This removes the file from the project and from what ZeroTwo searches there. The file itself stays in your Library until you delete it there.

## Delete chats without deleting files

Deleting a chat does not delete the files you attached to it. They stay in your Library until you delete them there.

The same holds for **Delete all chats** on the **Data Controls** tab of Settings. Its confirmation says it permanently deletes only your conversations, and that your assistants, projects, files and all other data remain intact. ## On iPhone, iPad and Android

The mobile apps have their own Library. On iPhone and iPad, deleting a file asks **Move to Recently Deleted?** and says files remain recoverable for 30 days; the Library's menu has a **Recently Deleted** entry to see what you removed. On Android, the delete prompt offers **Move to Recently Deleted** and says the item will be detached and restorable for 30 days.
