Does ZeroTwo claim ownership of what I create?

What the ZeroTwo Terms say about who owns your prompts and the output you generate, and the limits that come with it.

Updated: 20 hours ago

No. ZeroTwo's Terms and Conditions say you retain ownership rights in what you enter (your Input) and in what ZeroTwo generates for you (the Output), as permitted by applicable law and subject to any applicable rights. They also say ZeroTwo assigns to you any rights, title and interest in the Output, if any.

What do the Terms say?

Section 7, "AI Services and Generated Content", defines Input as what you provide to ZeroTwo and Output as what you receive from it based on that Input. It then states that you retain ownership rights in both, as permitted by applicable law and subject to any applicable rights, and that ZeroTwo assigns any rights in the Output to you.

What does that mean in practice?

  • ZeroTwo assigns its rights in your Output to you. The Terms say the assignment applies to your Input and to the specific Output provided to you.
  • The Terms promise only what exists. The wording is "as permitted by applicable law" and "any rights, title, and interest in the Output, if any", so the Terms do not promise that a particular Output carries any rights at all.
  • Output is not guaranteed to be unique. Other people who enter the same or a similar prompt may get identical or substantially similar Output. The assignment does not cover Output generated for other users, or third-party Output.
  • You are responsible for your content. Under section 5, when you post content on or through ZeroTwo you represent that it is yours or that you have the right to use it and to grant ZeroTwo the rights and license provided in the Terms, and that posting it does not violate anyone else's rights.
  • You are responsible for your Input. You confirm that you have the rights, licenses and permissions needed for what you enter, and your Input must comply with the Terms and applicable law.

What about third-party models?

ZeroTwo generates Output with multiple AI models, including open-source and proprietary large language models that may have been developed by individual companies or by communities of developers and researchers. The Terms say third-party services and third-party Output are subject to their own terms, and that ZeroTwo is not responsible for them. ZeroTwo describes itself as a conduit for access to those models. For how provider terms can affect your content, see Does ZeroTwo use my chats to train AI models?

What else should I know before I reuse Output?

  • Verify it. The Terms say Output may be incomplete, incorrect or unreliable, and that you should not rely on it as a sole source of truth.
  • Do not use it to harm others. The Platform Content Policy in section 8 says you may not repurpose or distribute Output to harm others, for example to defraud, scam, bully, harass or defame someone.

This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. For a specific use that matters to you, read section 7 of the full Terms. To find them, see Where can I read the ZeroTwo Terms and Conditions?
