Your past chats live in the sidebar. Open it, then look under Pinned for chats you pinned and under Recents for your other chats. Tap a chat to carry on where you stopped. Search, grouping and sorting are in the same place.
Open the sidebar
- Tap the sidebar button in the top-left corner of the screen. Swiping the screen to the right also opens it.
- Look under Pinned for chats you pinned. Your unpinned chats are under Recents.
- Tap a chat to open it. A chat without a title is listed as "Untitled Chat".
![]()
Recents shows 30 chats at first. Tap Show more at the bottom of the list to load 30 more. Once every chat is showing, the same spot offers Show less, which folds the list back to the first 30.
What you won't find in Recents
- Chats you moved into a project. Open the project from the Projects section of the sidebar instead.
- Archived chats. See "Find an archived chat" below.
Search your chats
- Tap Search at the top of the sidebar.
- Type part of a chat's title. The list narrows as you type, and pinned chats come first.
- Tap a result to open it. Tap New chat at the top of the list to start a fresh conversation instead.
Search compares what you type with chat titles and ignores capital letters. It does not look inside the messages, so use words that appear in the title. It lists the same chats as Recents, so chats in projects and archived chats do not show up in it, and neither does a chat that still has the title "New Chat".
Change how Recents is grouped and sorted
Tap the options button on the Recents heading. The menu has three groups:
| Group | Choices |
|---|---|
| Organize | By date groups chats under Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days, Previous 30 days and Older. Chronological list shows one flat list with no headings. |
| Sort by | Updated orders chats by their latest activity. Created orders them by when you started them. |
| Show | All chats lists everything. Unread lists only chats that carry an unread dot: ones you marked as unread, and ones where a run finished that you have not opened yet. |
Press and hold any chat to open its menu, where Mark as unread or Mark as read changes that chat's marker. The same menu has Pin, Rename, Archive and Delete.
Find an archived chat
Archiving removes a chat from Recents without deleting it. Right after you archive one, a small "Archived chat" notice appears with View and Undo. To come back to it later:
- Tap your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Settings.
- Open Data controls and tap Manage on the Archived chats row.
- Tap Restore next to a chat to put it back in your list.
