No. The ZeroTwo Android app does not ask for Chrome or any other named browser. Two of the sign-in options, Continue with Apple and Continue with Microsoft, open a browser tab on top of the app, so your phone needs a web browser installed. It can be whichever one you already use.
Which sign-in options use a browser
| Option on the sign-in screen | Does it open a browser tab? |
|---|---|
| Continue with Apple | Yes. Apple's sign-in page opens in a browser tab. |
| Continue with Microsoft | Yes. Microsoft's sign-in page opens in a browser tab. |
| Continue with Google | Normally no. The app starts Google's own sign-in on the phone. It also has a browser-based Google sign-in that it can use as a backup, and that one opens a browser tab. |
| Your email address, then Continue | No tab opens from the sign-in screen. ZeroTwo emails you a magic link, and opening that link takes you back into the app. |
| Continue with phone | No. ZeroTwo texts a 6-digit code to your number and you type it into the app. |
How the browser tab works
When you choose Apple or Microsoft, ZeroTwo opens the provider's sign-in page in a Custom Tab, a lightweight browser window that opens on top of the app. ZeroTwo does not name a browser for it, so it does not depend on Chrome, Brave or any other particular one. When you finish, the tab closes and ZeroTwo comes back to the front.
The return trip uses a link that belongs to ZeroTwo, zerotwoapp://oauth/callback, which Android hands back to the app. You never have to copy anything between the browser and ZeroTwo.
Links and your default browser
If you open a zerotwo.ai or app.zerotwo.ai web link that the app has no screen for, ZeroTwo passes it to your default browser. If you have not set a default, it uses another browser installed on the phone.
If the tab closes before you finish
- Go back to ZeroTwo. The sign-in screen is usable again straight away, so there is nothing to wait for.
- Choose the option again.
If ZeroTwo cannot complete a sign-in that returned from the browser, the sign-in screen shows "We couldn't finish signing you in. Please try again."
If you can't use a browser
Choose Continue with phone, enter your number and tap Continue. ZeroTwo sends a code by text message and does not open a browser at any point. If you have not installed the app yet, start with How do I install the ZeroTwo Android app from Google Play?
