What do ZeroTwo error messages mean, and how do I fix them?

Match an error or limit notice in ZeroTwo to its fix: retry, switch model, start a new chat, add credits, or send a report to the developers.

Updated: 20 hours ago

When a reply cannot be completed, ZeroTwo shows the problem in the chat, in red, with buttons under it: Report, Details (when the error carries technical details) and Retry (when a retry is possible). Start with Retry. ZeroTwo also retries on its own: when a connection drops before any output arrives, chat retries with a wait between attempts and then falls back to another model. If a reply stops partway, the part already written is kept and marked incomplete.

Credit and limit notices

Some problems appear as a notice just above the message box instead of an error in the chat.

  • You're out of credits. On the Free plan the notice says you will get 20 more credits when you log in tomorrow, and offers Upgrade. On paid plans it offers Buy credits and suggests switching models, buying a top-up pack or upgrading your plan. In a workspace it reads "Your workspace is out of credits" and asks you to have your workspace owner add credits.
  • Thread limit reached. The notice says to click Summarize to continue in a new thread. When the summary is ready, click Continue in new thread.
  • Monthly limit reached. Use a lower-cost model or upgrade your plan.
  • Daily usage budget reached. Shown on Ultra. The notice says when the budget resets, which is midnight UTC if no time is given.
  • You've reached today's free limit. The notice shows when the limit resets.

Use Dismiss warning (the x) to hide a notice. Image creation has its own limits, covered in How do I create and edit images with ZeroTwo?.

Connection problems

  • A chat that will not open. If your device reports no connection, ZeroTwo says "You are offline" and "Reconnect to the internet, then try opening this chat again." For other load failures it says "We could not open this chat" and "Your chat history is safe. Try loading this chat again." In both cases, click Try again.
  • Could not send your message. If ZeroTwo could not get a security token or verify your session, your draft goes back into the message box and the notice offers Retry, so you do not lose what you typed.
  • Work and Code. If a run stops on a model error, it offers Retry.

VPNs, proxies and browser extensions that filter traffic can interfere. Try turning them off for a moment, or ask your network admin to allow ZeroTwo's addresses.

Send a report

Click Details to see the technical error, its code, the provider and model, and the chat ID. Copy full report copies a text report with those details plus the time, the page address and your browser details. Click Report to send the error details to the ZeroTwo developers. If it cannot be sent, ZeroTwo copies it to your clipboard instead so you can paste it into a message.
