Attach a file to a chat and ZeroTwo can read it, search inside it and answer questions about it. These answers cover how to attach files, the limits, the file types that work and where your files are kept.
How do I attach a file?
- In the composer, select the + button (its tooltip reads "Add files & more"), then choose Files and folders (described as "Upload from computer"). Choose Add from library to reuse a file you already saved.
- Drag a file onto the chat. ZeroTwo shows "Drop any file here to add it to the conversation."
- Paste a very long block of text, more than 10,000 characters, and ZeroTwo attaches it as a text file named like
pasted-text-1234567890.txtinstead of filling the message box.
To take an attachment back out before you send, use its Remove file button.
How many files can I attach, and how large can they be?
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per message | 10 |
| Size of each file | 50 MB, videos included |
| Free plan | 1 file per message |
On the Free plan, choosing more than one file shows "Free plan allows 1 file per message", with an Upgrade to Pro button. If you already have a file attached, remove it first. The same 10-file, 50 MB and Free plan limits apply in the iOS and Android apps.
Which file types work?
The file picker offers these types.
| Kind | Examples |
|---|---|
| Documents | PDF, DOCX, DOC, PPTX, PPT, XLSX, XLS, ODT, ODS, ODP, Pages, Numbers, Keynote |
| Text and data | TXT, MD, CSV, TSV, JSON, XML, YAML, TOML, HTML, LOG, Parquet, Feather, Arrow, Avro, IPYNB |
| Code | JS, TS, PY, Java, C, C++, C#, Go, PHP, Ruby, Swift, Kotlin, Rust, SQL, shell scripts and more |
| Images | PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG |
| Audio | MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, Opus |
| Video | MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI, MKV |
How does ZeroTwo read my file?
It depends on the file and on the model you chose.
- Some models take certain files directly, such as images, PDFs and plain text files, and ZeroTwo then hands those over as they are. Which types a model accepts depends on the model; Claude models, for example, accept images, PDFs and .txt files. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio and video files are always read by ZeroTwo first, whichever model you pick.
- Otherwise ZeroTwo reads the file for the model. Text files come back as text, PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files as extracted text, images as a text description that includes the words in the picture, audio as a transcript, and video as an analysis plus a transcript.
- For a long file, ZeroTwo searches inside it for the passages that answer your question, or reads the whole file when you ask for that.
Files stay available for the whole chat. If you attach a file in one message, you can ask about it again later in the same conversation. For pictures that sit inside a document, see Does ZeroTwo read pictures inside documents and slide decks?
Where are my files kept?
Files you attach to a chat or add to a project are saved in your Library. To browse them, open Spaces in the rail and choose All. Settings > Storage shows how much of 20 GB your files and images use. To remove files and chats for good, see How ZeroTwo keeps and deletes your chats and files.
How do project files work?
In a project, choose Add sources to attach files to the project itself. ZeroTwo can search a project's files from any chat in that project, as well as the files attached to the chat you are in.
Why did my upload fail?
- "File ... is too large". The file is over 50 MB. Shrink it, compress it or split it.
- "Maximum 10 files allowed". A message carries at most 10 attachments. Remove one before adding another, or send the rest in a follow-up message.
- "Free plan allows 1 file per message." Attach one file at a time, or upgrade.
- "Upload failed". The attachment card shows this with a Retry button. Select Retry, or use Remove failed file and attach it again.
