Once you attach a file, you can ask ZeroTwo about it in plain language. It can look for a specific detail, summarize a file, pull out data, or compare several files in one answer. The file stays available for the rest of the chat, so you can keep asking follow-up questions.
Add the file
In the web and desktop apps you can add a file from the message box or by dragging it onto the chat.
- Select the + button in the message box. Its tooltip reads Add files & more. Choose Files and folders to pick files from your computer, or Add from library to reuse a file you already saved.
- Or drag a file onto the chat. ZeroTwo says Drop any file here to add it to the conversation.
You can attach up to 10 files to a message, and the Free plan allows 1 file per message. A few models do not accept attachments at all; with one of those selected, attaching files is turned off. For sizes, file types and fixes for failed uploads, see File uploads in ZeroTwo: common questions.
What you can ask for
| You want to | Try asking |
|---|---|
| Find one detail | "What does the contract say about termination?" |
| Summarize | "Give me the key points of this report." |
| Compare files | "What changed between these two versions?" (attach both) |
| Extract data | "List every date and amount mentioned in this PDF." |
| Understand a picture | "What does the text in this screenshot say?" |
| Work from a recording | "Summarize this audio file." |
ZeroTwo decides how to read the file. For a question about a specific detail it can search the file for the passages that match, using both meaning and keywords. When you ask for a summary or the full content, it can read the file itself instead of searching it. You do not have to pick a mode.
Reading a file itself has a limit: ZeroTwo reads roughly the first 500,000 characters of a file's text. For a very long file, ask about a specific section instead of the whole thing.
What ZeroTwo gets from each kind of file
When ZeroTwo reads a whole file for you, this is what comes back.
- Text and code files come through as text.
- PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files come through as extracted text.
- Images are read for the text and content in them.
- Audio becomes a transcript.
- Video becomes an analysis plus a transcript.
Some models take certain files directly instead of going through that step. The model you pick can change how a file is read, so try another model if an answer misses something.
Citations
When ZeroTwo draws on your files, its answer can include a small badge with the file's name. Select it to open the file.
Files in projects and in your Library
ZeroTwo can search the files attached to the chat you are in and, inside a project, the project's files as well. To start a chat about a file you already saved, open its three-dot menu in the Library and choose Chat about this. A new chat opens with the file attached.
When you want a new file, not just an answer
- For charts, calculations and cleaned-up data from a spreadsheet, see How do I analyze spreadsheets and data files in ZeroTwo?

Tips for better answers
- Say what you want back: a table, a short list, a one-paragraph summary.
- Name the part you care about, such as a section, a page or a column.
- For a chart or diagram inside a document, attach it as its own image. See Does ZeroTwo read pictures inside documents and slide decks?
