You can attach pictures to a message and ask ZeroTwo about them: describe a photo, read the text in a screenshot, or compare two images. This page covers how to attach them, what is accepted, and what to expect.
How to attach an image
On the web and desktop apps
- Select the + button in the message box.
- Choose Files and folders and pick one or more images. To use an image you have already saved, choose Add from library instead.
- Type your question and send the message.
You can also drag image files onto the message box, or paste an image from your clipboard into it.
On iPhone, iPad and Android
Tap + in the message box. The menu offers Camera to take a new picture, Photos to pick from your library, and Files for anything else.
Supported image formats
On the web and desktop apps, ZeroTwo accepts common image types, including PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, AVIF and HEIC. It also prepares images before sending them:
- Formats other than JPEG and PNG are converted where possible. An SVG becomes a PNG. Other pictures become a PNG when they have transparency and a JPEG otherwise. If a conversion fails, ZeroTwo shows "Could not convert" with the file name and uploads the original file instead.
- An animated GIF, WebP or PNG is flattened to its first frame, and you are told so.
- A picture over 8 MB is re-encoded, at lower quality and then at a smaller size if needed, to bring it under 8 MB.
- If a HEIC photo cannot be decoded, you see the message ".heic images are not supported" and a request to convert it to .jpg or .png first.
Size and count limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Size of one file | 50 MB |
| Files in one message | 10 |
| Files in one message on the Free plan | 1 |
When a file is over the size limit, ZeroTwo tells you that it exceeds the limit of 50 MB. On the Free plan, choosing several files at once, or adding a file while one is already attached, is refused with a message that starts "Free plan allows 1 file per message." See What does the ZeroTwo Free plan include? for the other Free plan limits.
What happens when the model cannot see images
Models differ in which image formats and sizes they take directly. When the model you chose accepts the image, it is sent to the model as it is. When it does not, ZeroTwo can still help: an image-reading tool looks at the picture and returns a written description for the conversation to build on.
That tool can describe or identify what an image shows, read the text in it, and compare several images. Nothing is generated or changed.
Asking about an image is not editing it
Attaching a picture does not ask ZeroTwo to change it. Questions about the picture are answered in text and nothing is modified. If you want a different version, say so in the message, for example "remove the background" or "make it look like a painting". To make a new picture from scratch, use Create image in the + menu of a Chat.
Where attached images are kept
Files you attach from the message box are saved as items in your Library. Open Spaces in the left rail, then All, to find them.
